It is calculated by dividing a person’s weight in kilograms by the square of their height in meters. BMI provides a simple numeric measure that classifies people into categories such as underweight, normal weight, overweight, and obese.
For a normal, healthy adult, a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered ideal. This range suggests that the person has a balanced amount of body fat, which is associated with a lower risk of health problems like heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension.
